Are you a believer in the American promise of living your life freely? Freedom should not be taken lightly. Someone can’t advocate for one right and then disavow another, it is hypocritical and even more important it flies in the face of our freedoms as American citizens.
Let’s take two of our nations hottest topics as examples, abortion and guns. Even if you find abortion and/or guns repugnant; how is it right for you to make that decision for someone else? I personally have never had an abortion nor have I ever owned a gun. But the point is why should someone else have any control over whether or not I had an abortion or bought a gun?
Isn’t it hypocritical that the person who is hell bent on owning a gun should think that they have the right to decide whether or not that anyone should be allowed to have an abortion or the person that avails themselves of an abortion should have the right to choose the right of gun ownership for someone else? How do you figure that your choices should have weight on someone else’s?
Let’s put it out there: abortion AND guns kill! There is no one that can say differently and keep a straight face. While it would be preferable to live in a world where neither would be necessary, I don’t see that happening. Do you? When a 10-year-old little girl is raped and has to be transported to another state, like she is a piece of luggage, to have an abortion because her own state has no common sense abortion is necessary. When there are criminals that have machine guns to aim at police officers, the officer have to have guns so they have a chance to go home to their families every night, guns are necessary. You don’t have to agree with me, just, think it thru.
This country is based on the following premise, the right to live our lives with “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Liberty is defined by Merriam Webster as the state of being FREE within society from controlling, oppressive, or arbitrary restrictions opposed by authority. Which of your freedoms are you worried are being encroached upon? A discussion for another time.
